Chamomile is a herb of the Asteraceae family native to Europe and the Mediterranean coast. Its name comes from the fact that the ancient Greeks called it chamaimerone, meaning "apple of the earth," because of the sweet apple scent that wafts from its white flowers. The herbal tea that is drunk is made from the dried flowers of an annual plant called the German variety.
